The DIY SOS Big Build

The DIY SOS Big Build

14-year-old Jack Morris was born with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called central core myopothy, and in his short life he has had 19 operations to try to correct the symptoms of this disorder, including severe scoliosis and displacement of the hips. His mother Helen has always been his rock and his elder brother Daniel his best friend.

He has managed to remain cheerful after spending months in hospital and is in a mainstream school studying for his GCSEs, but as Jack grows into a man it has been impossible for Helen to get him upstairs and he is forced to sleep in the living room, which means he has very little privacy.

The teenager lives with his mum and brother in a small three-bedroomed semi in Swansea, which has been the family home since before he was born. With no other social space in the house Daniel rarely brings his mates round and as a result they spend less time together as a family.

But that will all now change thanks to the TV home makeover show team who have transformed the property with the help of not only locals and tradesmen but companies like Scolmore Group, who donated all of the wiring accessories needed for the project.

One contractor said thousands of pounds were being poured into the project. He added:
“It’s not just a garden, the house is being extended to help Jack.”

Another contractor added:

“It is brilliant to see so many people wanting to help out here.”

So Nick and the boys took on the challenge of turning the house into somewhere for Jack to grow into a man with dignity, a place to give Helen sanctuary and to reunite two amazing brothers.
